Below is a list of some of the most common symptoms that a clutch is about to fail. If you are experiencing any of the clutch fault symptoms, call to make an appointment for a vehicle inspection.

Slip

Symptoms: Vehicle will not drive up steep hills, you might experience a burning smell, as you accelerate the vehicle does not respond with the corresponding amount of power.

Cause: Could be any of the following:

Incorrect clutch adjustment, worn clutch facing, oil on contact of facing, damages pressure plate, broken springs.

Judder

Symptoms: You will experience a severe low frequency vibration

Cause: worn spigot bearing, loose or worn engine mountings, the engine and gearbox might not be aligned correctly. Uneven operation of the clutch arm.

High Clutch Pedal

Symptoms: If the biting point of your clutch is at the top of the pedal travel (almost in line with the brake pedal)

Cause: the clutch pedal gradually gets higher as the clutch wears, if it is high you should be getting symptoms of clutch slip as above - normally this is down to wear and tear.
